Print answer sheets

Answer sheets are printed from the survey itself, so the system knows exactly where every question and every circle is when the sheets come back.

Before you print

Finish the survey first. Sheets keep the questions they were printed with. If you later change a question's wording, sheets already printed are still read, but their responses are held for you to check. If you remove a question, change its type, or add, remove or reorder its options, sheets printed before the change are refused. See what happens when the survey changes.

Ask only what you need. Every question takes room on paper and effort from the respondent. Closed questions (choices, yes/no, ratings) are read automatically; open text needs handwriting to be read or typed.

Print step by step

  1. Open the survey and choose Options → Paper answer sheets.
  2. Click Print answer sheets.
  3. Choose the sheet language (see below).
  4. Choose the kind of sheets and, for numbered sheets, how many.
  5. If the survey has number or date questions, choose how each is printed.
  6. Click Print. The PDF downloads. Runs over 50 sheets are prepared in the background, and you are notified when they are ready.

Every print is listed under Printed answer sheets, where you can Download again at any time.

Sheet language

  • A survey in one language: choose العربية or English. This sets the page direction (right to left or left to right) and the language of the sheet's own words: the instructions, Yes/No, and the day/month/year captions. Your questions are printed exactly as you wrote them. The language that matches your questions is already selected.
  • A translated survey: choose one of its approved languages. The questions, options and the sheet's words are all printed in that language. See Review and approve translations.

Whatever the language, the answers are saved the same way, so Arabic and English sheets of the same survey add up in one set of results.

Numbered sheets or a master copy

Numbered sheets (recommended) One master sheet to photocopy
What you print One sheet per respondent, each with its own number One sheet, which you photocopy
The same paper scanned twice Always caught: a sheet is imported once only May not be caught, because copies look the same
Limit Up to 500 sheets per print One sheet
When to use Whenever you can print enough sheets When you can only photocopy

With a master copy, scan the pages of each copy together and in order, so the system can tell where one respondent's sheet ends and the next begins.

Numbers and dates: circles or boxes

A number or date question can be printed in two ways. The recommended way is already selected for each question.

  • Circles to shade: the respondent writes the digits, then shades the matching circle under each one. Read automatically, at no cost, but it takes more of the page.
  • Boxes to write in: one digit in each box. Quicker for the respondent and takes one line, but it is read by AI from your AI credit, or typed by you during the review.

Do you need the exact date or number? On paper, respondents often leave a date of birth or a phone number blank. A simpler question is answered more willingly and saves room:

  • Age groups: a single-choice question with options such as 18–24, 25–34, 35–44. Read automatically and takes a few lines.
  • Year of birth only: a number question with a maximum of 2100, printed as four columns of circles.
  • Age in years: a number question with a maximum of 120, three columns of circles.
  • Phone numbers: boxes suit them best. Ask for one only if you will use it.

What is on the sheet

  • Black squares in the four corners of every page. The system finds the page by them, so they must not be cut, folded or covered.
  • A code and a sheet number on every page, identifying the survey, the print and the page.
  • The instruction to shade the circle completely with a blue or black pen and not to use a tick (✓).
  • The option labels beside the circles, never inside them, so a shaded circle never hides its own label.
  • Skip instructions for questions shown only after a given answer, such as "Answer only if you answered «Yes» in question 3".
